Meet The Baker
Hello, and thank you for visiting my website! I’m Claire Sara, founder, baker and cake designer here at Cherry On Top.
Cherry On Top has recently relocated within Fife from Burntisland to Markinch, with big cake plans for the future – so stay tuned!
Where It All Began….
My very first memorable toy as a child was an “a la carte” kitchen! That moment I ‘baked’ my first ‘plastic’ cake, I fell in love with baking. When I was tall enough to reach the electric mixer, I baked at any given opportunity. Whipping up cakes and traybakes with my Mum or baking shortbread with my Gran. I was in element when I had my apron on and a wooden spoon in my hand, and I was lucky enough to be surrounded by those who also had a flair and passion for food and baking.
The first wedding cake I ever made though, was my own, back in 2010!
This was where I fell in love with creating something that was so important to a couples special day.
Then in 2012, I became a Mum! Having worked for years in hospitality and as a wedding planner, it was time to leave behind the unsightly hours and concentrate on being a new Mum, but I also grabbed the opportunity to throw myself into creating a business where my true passion lied.
Through word of mouth recommendations my business has steadily grown a core customer base within Fife and Edinburgh.
I can turn my creative hand from wedding, birthday, cupcakes, cupcake bouquets to seasonal treats, chocolates and sugar flowers. But at beginning of 2021, I discovered a new found passion; buttercream cakes!
The Future….
There is one key philosophy that remains constant; “your cake must taste as good as it looks”.
From 2022, all new bookings, I will be only be offering buttercream and ganache styled cakes and now in 2023 with a recent relocation from Burntisland to Markinch, Cherry On Top has some new cake plans in the making. Stay Tuned!
I can’t wait to build up my portfolio and share my new designs and creations with you.
Out Of The Studio
Before I start my days in the studio, I head to the gym! Years ago I couldn’t even do a press up, and now thanks to finding a passion for Crossfit I have a love for lifting weights and pushing my body to new limits. But if you can’t find me there, I will be out running or walking with our crazy Labrador Stoli along our stunning coastal paths here in Fife, or in the woods here in Markinch. During the pandemic, I took full advantage of living near the coast, and so, my craze for paddle boarding began!! Out on the Scottish waters, whether it be on a cold frosty winters morning, at sunset or under the rare Scottish sun I find this is the place I can be centred and calm.
My two children, Gregor and Beatrix defiantly keep me busy when they aren’t at school. Building Lego, doing arts and crafts or baking! They are my chief cake testers and my biggest fans!
